Bottom's up!

Bohdy had his first bottle today! That's big news! His nurse, Juanita, (one of his primary NICU nurses) suggested we give it a shot ... and he did great! He took 15mL of his 31 mL feeding out of the bottle. The rest went through his feeding tube. Preemie babies have to learn how to coordinate the three basic elements of feeding: 'suck, swallow, breath' ... sounds so easy but it's a major feat for little ones. So eventually he will do a combination of nursing and bottle feeding, but for now he does a little of both and then gets the rest the 'easy way' (feeding tube). He's 3 pounds 7 ounces today, so it all must be working!

We had a visit from Bohdy's Gramma Carol (a regular in 'Bohdy's corner') and from his great granddad Grady, who was just in town for the day. Bohdy slept right through the visit but it was fun to show him off to somebody new who hasn't seen him yet!

We also got a visit from our friends Melissa and Tom Kitchen, who welcomed their sweet baby boy into the world yesterday (11/13/09) at the same hospital. Their baby is a NICU mate of Bohdy's but hopefully will be a short-timer in the NICU once he gets his breathing and blood pressure figured out. Congrats, Melissa and Tom. He's adorable (and looks big at 5 pounds 3 ounces!!).

  1. If you aren't the CUTEST little boy.....you'll be joining your little sister for 'milky' one day soon! Have a great week my precious one and may God continue to watch over you and bless you and all the other little ones around you. Can't wait for your first visit to the beach and to see you running around in our backyard! What a joy that will be!
